DECATUR, Ala. (TCN) — A former chiropractor was recently sentenced for trying to fatally poison his wife with lead.
According to WAFF-TV, on Aug. 27, Brian Mann received life behind bars with the possibility of parole. He was previously convicted in June of attempted murder.
In January 2022, the defendant’s wife, Hannah Mann, was reportedly admitted to a hospital with abdominal pain, and staff determined she had consumed a large amount of lead “over an extended period of time.” Lead was recovered from Hannah Mann’s body during treatment. She remained hospitalized for months but survived the incident. The victim reportedly told authorities that her husband “had provided her with daily supplements.”
According to the district attorney’s office, investigators didn’t find any lead in Brian Mann’s home, and their kids tested negative. However, prosecutors said X-rays revealed there was lead in the defendant’s system that had been “ingested only hours before.”
Upon further investigation, authorities said they discovered life insurance policies that Mann had taken out on his wife worth over $1 million. One of the life insurance policies was allegedly purchased just two days before the victim was hospitalized.
Per WAFF, prosecutors argued that Mann made the daily decision to kill his wife.
