Former Missouri cop pleads guilty to federal CSAM charges

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (TCN) — A former police sergeant has pleaded guilty in federal court to both producing and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri announced on Sept. 30 that Jimmy Joe Culbertson pleaded guilty to two counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

KOMU reports that Culbertson was already behind bars in Boone County Jail; he was indicted on eight counts of statutory sodomy, according to a grand jury indictment filed on Aug. 2, 2024. The victim in that case was under the age of 12.

According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Culbertson admitted in his plea that he photographed the abuse of his minor children and that he also possessed 150 files of CSAM. During their investigation, authorities also found software for deleting digital evidence and hiding online activities.

Culbertson is a retired police sergeant who spent more than 24 years in law enforcement.

He faces up to 70 years in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
