Two women mysteriously vanished as they were traveling from Kansas to Oklahoma to pick up children this past weekend, and authorities suspect foul play after finding their abandoned vehicle on the side of a road in a rural area.
Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, were last heard from on Saturday morning, authorities said. They never made it to their pickup spot in Eva, Oklahoma, and they were believed to be in danger, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) spokesman Hunter McKee confirmed to Law&Crime.
Their car was found near Highway 95 and Road L in Texas County, Oklahoma, according to the OSBI. No arrests have been made.
Police did not reveal the relationship between the women, only to say they both are from Kansas, and authorities did not say who took custody of the children.
A missing person poster said Butler is 5 feet, 4 inches tall with red hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt, denim shorts, and Heydude shoes. She has several tattoos, including “a Chinese symbol on her left forearm and sunflower on her left shoulder.”
Kelley has brown hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing whitewashed blue jeans, a long-sleeved shirt, and tan-colored shoes. She has a butterfly tattoo on her left forearm.
Kelley is the wife of a minister and the sister-in-law of a church member, according to a post on Facebook from the McCook Christian Church in Nebraska, near the border of Kansas.
“Please pray that Jillian and her friend Veronica are safe and that they are found quickly,” the post said. “God please bring these women home to their families that are so worried about them.”
