Police arrested the suspect, 43-year-old George Sydnor Jr., on suspicion of first-degree murder.
According to court documents cited by NBC Washington, Bautista checked in at the Ivy City Hotel on Friday at approximately 5:55 p.m. and parked in front of her hotel room. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Sydnor, who is reportedly homeless, riding his bike at around 6:45 p.m. and putting his ear to the door of Bautista’s room.

Then, Sydnor allegedly entered her room, where there was a struggle. Bautista reportedly opened the door and screamed for help, but Sydnor allegedly pulled her back into the room. A witness who heard her yell called 911. When officers arrived at the hotel room, Sydnor allegedly told them nothing was wrong, but one of the policemen reportedly saw Sydnor had blood on his hand.
D.C. Police got access to the master key and made their way into the room at approximately 7 p.m. Bautista was reportedly on the floor suffering from stab wounds while Sydnor was lighting a cigarette.
Investigators reportedly located a broken knife in the hotel room and part of the broken blade in Sydnor’s jacket. NBC Washington reports he sustained cut wounds on his hands and had blood on several items of his clothing.
Bautista was stabbed about 30 times.
According to NBC Washington, Bautista’s family said in a statement, “Our family is devastated by the loss of our beloved Christy. She brought joy to everybody who knew her and was a shining light in all of our lives.”
