Girlfriend of Brittanee Drexel’s killer indicted by feds- Angel Cooper Vause, the long-time girlfriend of Raymond Moody, the man convicted of killing Brittanee Drexel, has been indicted on federal charges for making false statements to federal investigators. Vause, 56, is accused of lying to FBI investigators during their investigation into Drexel’s murder in 2009.
The charges against Vause include three counts of making false statements. Court documents state that Vause lied to federal agents in 2022 by claiming she went to a home to get keys while Drexel was being raped and killed by Moody, and was instead going in a different direction.
Additionally, Vause allegedly told agents that Drexel kept her phone but instead, Vause had taken the phone and got rid of it between Georgetown and Charleston. Prosecutors are also alleging that Vause lied about Drexel’s willingness to go with Vause and Moody to smoke marijuana and do cocaine, stating instead that Drexel was “abducted under false pretenses”.
Vause made her first appearance in court to face these charges. Magistrate Judge Molly H. Cherry granted Vause a $10,000 unsecured bond, and she will be required to have the supervision of a U.S. probation officer. This hearing comes one day after Timothy Taylor, another man involved in the case, sued the DOJ for falsely accusing him of Drexel’s murder.
The case highlights the complexities of investigations into serious crimes, where the truth often involves multiple layers of deception and misinformation. The charges against Vause underscore the importance of truthfulness and cooperation with law enforcement in such investigations, as well as the potential consequences of providing false statements to federal investigators.
