Police in Florida are searching for a man they believed stabbed a good Samaritan and stole his car after the injured man offered to help him by giving him a ride.
Officers reportedly responded to calls of a person stabbed at around 6 p.m. on Saturday night. Responding officers found the victim suffering from apparent stab wounds, CBS News reported. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Police say the alleged attacker approached the victim in a parking lot in Miami-Dade County and asked him for a ride, CBS said. The man, who is not a ride-share driver, reportedly agreed to take him to a nearby location.
The suspect is believed to have started stabbing the victim as they approached the drop-off location. He then allegedly stole his vehicle.
Neither the suspect nor the victim have been identified. The Miami-Dade Robbery Bureau is investigating the incident, CBS reported.
According to local ABC affiliate WPLG, bystanders captured the aftermath of the incident. Witnesses said the car had screeched to a halt before screaming began emanating from the vehicle, WPLG reported. The men reportedly struggled before the driver got out of the car and collapsed.
Police are seen in witness cellphone video treating an apparently injured man whose clothes are spotted with blood.
Video also appears to have captured the attacker as he drove the victim’s car away, according to WPLG.
Detectives have asked anyone with information about the case to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
