Mass of Christian burial for Theresa M. Bieber, 90, of Yankton (formerly Trail City) will be at 10:00 am MST on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City, officiated by Father Brian Lane.  Visitation will be at Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge, SD on Monday, February 12 at 6:00 pm with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 pm   Theresa passed away Monday, February 5, 2024, at Sister James Care Center in Yankton SD.

Theresa was born May 12, 1933, to Peter and Frances (Thomas) Schweitzer. She was raised on the family farm near Trail City.  She attended Harding School near the family farm for her primary education and then McLaughlin High School.  She always spoke fondly about the memories of living in the dorms in McLaughlin, what fun they had.  A lifetime of friends were made there.  Mom was very proud of her time teaching at a one room school in the Trail City area.

On March 15, 1954, Theresa married Robert (Bob) Bieber. They farmed west of Trail City on the Schweitzer farm site. In 1974, they joined the Bieber farm to their operation, proudly farming both of their family farms. Theresa was a proud alumnus of Harding School and helped to organize many successful reunions.

Theresa was a hardworking farmwife and mother of eight children. It wasn’t uncommon for her  to start her day milking  2 cows in the morning, later crawling in the combine or tractor and then back home in time to make supper.   She loved her garden and stocking up for winter with  hundreds of jars of canned goods. Theresa was a great cook, she always had something baked for her family to enjoy. If you drove into her yard, it wasn’t long before you had a cup of coffee in one hand and a cookie in the other. Above all this, Theresa was a devout Catholic.  Her children fondly remember blizzard Sundays–instead of attending church, they were found kneeling (not sitting or leaning) around the couch praying the rosary. Theresa loved the bouquets of crocuses Bob picked for her every calving season; those crocuses were a welcome sign of spring. Bob and Theresa retired from the farm in 2000 and moved to Yankton.

Theresa is survived by her eight children: Deborah Hout (Carmen) Sioux Falls, Susan Thompson (Robert) Rapid City, Richard Bieber Trail City, Patricia Wrucke (Mark) Hackensack, MN, Irene Cardwell Brookings, Steven Bieber (Barb) New Underwood, Lucille Lewno (Thomas) White, Joyce Kindvall (Gaylund) Brookings. Sister: Della Jensen, Bismarck, ND, Brothers: Leroy Schweitzer, Manteno, IL, Bernard Schweitzer (Anna), Wittmann, AZ, Claude Schweitzer (Jill), Ham Lake, MN. 19 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 60 years Robert. Her brother Eugene and wife Kate, sister-in-law Lorena Schweitzer, brother-in-law Dwane Jensen, son-in-law Leonard Cardwell, great grandson Zachary Krumvida.

Thank you for being our Mother, our protector, our role model and now our Guardian Angel!
