Google Engineer Allegedly Admitted Hitting His Wife, Found Beaten to Death in Their Home – Crime Online

A Google engineer charged with the death of his fellow engineer wife last week allegedly admitted punching her.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police found Liren Chen, 27, “spattered in blood” next to his wife’s body in their Santa Clara home on January 16.

Chen’s wife, who has not been publicly identified but was listed in property records as Xuanyi Yu,  had blunt force trauma to her head, the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office said.

“Chen’s right hand was extremely swollen and purple,” the district attorney’s office wrote. “He had blood on his clothing, his legs, arms, and hands  and scratches on his arm.”

Court documents say first responders asked Chen how he hurt his hand, and he reportedly told them, “I punched my wife,” saying the incident took place the day before, the San Francisco Standard reported.

Police were called to the couple’s $2 milllion home last week by a friend who had seen them at dinner the night before and had been concerned at Chen’s behavior. The acquaintance said that neither Chen nor his wife answered the door or their phones, and when they looked through a window, they saw Chen in the house “motionless on his knees, had his hands in the air and . . . staring blankly,” the district attorney’s office said.

Chen’s arraignment has been delayed due to his hospitalization. He is currently scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
