Grown man allegedly stabbed his 12-year-old cousin over a gaming console

SUNRISE, Fla. (TCN) — A 28-year-old man is behind bars on a charge of aggravated battery for allegedly stabbing his younger cousin in the hip.

According to an arrest report obtained by WPLG, Andrew Zagazeta was arrested July 31 after police were called to a residence for a stabbing. When officers arrived, the victim’s great-grandmother alleged Zagazeta was arguing with his 12-year-old cousin over a gaming console. She claimed she intervened and did not see a knife during the fight. Zagazeta then allegedly left the home.

According to WPLG, after Zagazeta left, the victim approached his great-grandmother and said he had been stabbed in the hip. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of a wound about 1 centimeter deep.

During an interview at the hospital, the victim alleged that Zagazeta pushed him after the victim confronted him about using the gaming console without permission. The victim said he had gotten a knife from the storage block in the kitchen but put it away when his great-grandmother broke up the fight. However, the victim alleged Zagazeta took a knife from behind the TV and stabbed him with it.

Zagazeta’s statements to police were redacted from the affidavit, Law & Crime reports. He was charged with aggravated battery and is being held in jail on $20,000 bond, per WPLG.
