Ari – this is very sad news…both men sound like they were very special individuals and left us way too soon. May they rest in peace and may their memories be a blessing to all who knew and loved them!!!

In the last few days, the tennis industry has lost two iconic figures, both of whom had a huge impact on myself and the rest of the tennis industry. At the age of 16, David Filer succumbed to cancer. He was a fierce competitor on the court, but he always upheld the highest standards of sportsmanship and character. He enjoyed team building activities and being a part of something bigger than himself. David was adored by the many players and coaches he influenced, and he will be sorely missed.

Jeff Rothstein also succumbed to cancer in the last few days. Jeff served as secretary of the eastern board, on the national junior comp, as a teaching pro, and as a national coach. I followed in his footsteps with everything he had.

It’s always sad when someone passes away too soon regardless of their age or background but it’s especially tragic when it happens at such a young age like it did with David Filer. His memory will live on through all those who knew him or heard about him because he made such a huge impact during his short lifetime despite being taken away too early from us all due to glioblastoma cancer. Our thoughts go out to all affected by this tragedy during these tough times so that we can find comfort together while grieving the loss of our beloved friend and family member – David Filer may you rest in peace!
