Sai De Silva discovered heartbreaking news about her marriage to David Craig in the middle of filming The Real Housewives of New York City Season 16, Episode 5, and broke down when sharing with producers exactly how she found out her husband had filed for divorce. She revealed she heard about it not from her husband of nearly nine years, but from one of her RHONY Season 16 castmates.
“The kids went upstate with David. And then all of the sudden, I got a message saying, ‘Are you okay?’” she recalled during RHONY’s Oct. 6 episode. “I got another message asking me if I’m okay. And then Erin [Lichy] texts me, ‘He filed.’”
She added, “And my heart dropped into my feet. And I was just in such shock.”
During The Real Housewives of New York City After Show, Sai detailed her raw reaction to the end of her marriage. “I remember being on the bathroom floor and talking to Jessel [Taank] and like, just sobbing. After I got off the phone with Jessel, I called my lawyer,” she said.
Producers inquired if Sai ever spoke to David about his decision to file, and she said they “did not communicate whatsoever.”
“In a way, it felt like he was reaching out for me to get a huge reaction,” Sai reflected on the After Show. “And in that moment, it was almost like I’ve disconnected from someone I’ve known for so many years. That if you could do something like this to me…like in such a—I want to say a disgusting way, because that is what it is to me—then you know what? I’m moving forward, and all I care about are my children. And I didn’t call.”
Sai De Silva shares her reaction to David Craig filing for divorce
Although Sai previously shared that she’d asked David for a separation during RHONY’s Season 16 premiere, she admitted she was still blindsided by his decision to file for divorce.
“I asked him to go to mediation, so we can do it privately, because I didn’t want the world to know,” she said on the RHONY After Show. “More importantly, I didn’t want the children to know quite yet. But I had no idea that this was coming.”
Sai added the timing of David’s filing felt “calculated.”
“My aunt just left the day before, and my support system is my aunt. He did ask me several times when she’s leaving and I’m like, ‘What difference does it make?’” Sai shared. “The same day she left was the same day he filed, so I would be alone when I found out. And that was like—it just hit me in my gut.”

Sai shared she was upset by David’s lack of communication with her. “Not even the decency to call me and tell me? Instead, I had to find out while I was alone?” she said to producers during the Oct. 6 episode.
She added that the news hitting the press before she knew about it also hurt her. “It crushed every last ounce of any feeling I have left for David,” she confessed. “I would never do that. After this, I feel like it’s the biggest betrayal.”
Sai De Silva opens up about telling her children about her divorce
Sai shared during RHONY’s Oct. 6 episode that one of her first calls after finding out about the divorce filing was to her daughter, London. She also shares son, Rio, with David.
“I called my daughter and I reassured her like, ‘I love you. Your dad loves you. This has nothing to do with you. This is something that me and your dad are going through,’” she said. “I wanted her to know, you know, don’t read the comments. It’s extremely hard to navigate when you have a teenage daughter who is in high school, and her friends follow you, and her friends’ mothers’ follow you.”
On the RHONY After Show, Sai added that she wanted London to hear the news from her and not the internet. “She was very grown up. And she took a sigh, and she took a beat, and she was just like, ‘Are you okay?’” she said.
Sai shared more of her daughter’s poignant reaction: “And then she said, “It’s all right, mommy. Like, it’s going to be fine.’ She was like, ‘At least we can all be happy now.’”
Sai De Silva shares how the RHONY ‘Wives are supporting her through her divorce
Sai made it clear she feels “very supported” in her divorce by the RHONY Season 16 cast, specifically naming Jessel, Erika Hammond and Hailey Glassman during the RHONY After Show. “I did feel that I was not alone,” she added.
But when producers asked about support from Sai’s longtime friend Daisy Toye, Sai admitted, “I don’t think she gives me the best advice.”

She described Daisy’s words: “‘Go be nice to him, maybe give him a little, like, kissy kissy and make things okay.’”
“For her to tell me things like, ‘He loves you so much, though,’ like, as if his bad behavior can be looked past,” Sai added. “And I kept explaining, he blew up my life, and now you want me to run to him and give him a little kiss and just be like, ‘Oh, it’s okay, I love you?’”
