BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho (TCN) — A 39-year-old man is behind bars for allegedly breaking into a woman’s home, strangling her, and attempting to sexually assault her.
At around 3 a.m. on July 16, a woman woke up to see an intruder standing over her bed with his pants down, East Idaho News reports. According to police records obtained by the outlet, the suspect, Tyler Humphries, allegedly told the victim he was “going to rape her until she told him the truth.” Humphries then allegedly tried to sexually assault her, strangle her, and cover her mouth when she screamed for help.
The victim escaped to another room, where her child reportedly wrapped a blanket around her and attempted to confront the suspect. According to East Idaho News, Humphries allegedly threw the child into a wall and then left. Police responded to the scene and the victim was examined at a hospital.
The next morning, Humphries allegedly returned to the victim’s home and the police arrested him at the scene on a warrant for an unrelated matter. He was allegedly in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia used for smoking methamphetamine, according to East Idaho News. He allegedly told police that he was trying to cuddle with the victim and later admitted to authorities that he did try to assault her.
The relationship between the victim and Humphries is unclear, Law & Crime reports.
Humphries was charged with attempted rape, attempted strangulation, domestic violence — battery, and one charge of burglary, plus misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor possession, per East Idaho News.
Humphries is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 31. If he is found guilty as charged, he will face more than 52 years in prison, according to East Idaho News.
