PORTER COUNTY, Ind. (TCN) — A 32-year-old woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly fatally stabbed her father and cut his heart out.
According to court documents obtained by WXIN, police arrived at a home on July 26 after family members called to request a welfare check on 69-year-old Gregory Dolnics, who lived with his daughter, Serena Dolnics.
While those family members were on the phone with dispatchers, they allegedly received a text message from Serena Dolnics’ boyfriend, USA Today reports. He allegedly said she was covered in blood and had possibly stabbed her father. He also stated he believed she might kill herself, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by USA Today.
Responding officers entered through the back of the residence and found a locked bedroom door. A SWAT team was called in and Serena Dolnics was taken into custody. In the home, authorities found Gregory Dolnics deceased, with his heart cut out and placed on his stomach, per WXIN. In addition, he appeared to have been stabbed in the head, hands, and arms.
Dolnics allegedly waived her right to an attorney, according to WXIN. She allegedly said she and her father argued often but quickly got past it. She claimed she did not see her father injured before she returned home and said cuts on her hands came from a weed trimmer or small saw from working in the garden, according to the affidavit obtained by USA Today. Police wrote, “There was no garden, no bloody shears, or small saw located on the property.”
A coroner determined Gregory Dolnics’ death was a homicide and Serena Dolnics was charged with murder. According to court records obtained by Northwest Indiana Times, she has past convictions for methamphetamine possession, operating while intoxicated, and public intoxication.
She is being held without bond, per WXIN.
