Indiana woman allegedly held captive by knife-wielding convict known as ‘Outlaw’

MUNCIE, Ind. (TCN) — A 59-year-old man is behind bars after police say he beat a woman and held her captive.

On July 20, a woman came into a muffler shop and alleged she had been beaten by Rodney “Outlaw” Adams, who she claimed had been holding her captive for several days and using the threat of knives to prevent her escape, WXIN reports.

Police responded to Adams’ address, but no one was there. WXIN reports the house was reportedly unfit for human habitation. A warrant was issued for Adams’ arrest and police located him at a different home July 30. He was allegedly hiding under a pile of trash in the attic and holding a knife to his own throat. After police attempted to negotiate with him, they reportedly deployed pepper balls to get him to drop the weapon.

According to court records obtained by WXIN, Adams was previously convicted of strangulation and battery resulting in modest injury in 2023 and he reportedly served 141 days in jail. In addition, he has also reportedly been charged with drug- and battery-related counts in the past.

Per WXIN, Adams is behind bars on preliminary charges of criminal confinement, intimidation with a deadly weapon, battery with a prior conviction, and strangulation.
