As Kelsey Swanson continued to question her future with her unnamed boyfriend of roughly a decade on The Real Housewives of Rhode Island, a split appeared to be imminent.
In fact, at the end of Episode 5, a sneak peek at what’s to come previewed Alicia Carmody asking Kelsey how she was doing “after the breakup,” though the details of exactly what she was referring to are currently unclear. Kelsey had already been laying the groundwork for that news, however.
Case in point: Kelsey invited Ashley Iaconetti to her in-home salon and opened up about potentially having to earn an income in the future. Because she’d been doing hair and makeup for both her friends and for herself since high school, including during her pageant days, the former Miss Rhode Island USA decided that the beauty business might be her best bet.

“I can hustle, and I’ve hustled before,” Kelsey explained in a confessional. “When I first met my boyfriend, I was a waitress, and I lived with my parents in a middle-class household. And I went straight from my parents’ house to his house. And then after that, I’ve never had to work.”
She continued, “But if I decide to leave, then I’m gonna need to start, like, being self-sufficient.” When a producer asked her if that was “a scary thought,” Kelsey simply replied, “Yeah.”

During her one-on-one time with Ashley on RHORI, Kelsey also dropped a few more breadcrumbs about her boyfriend, who has not appeared on the series and whose face has been removed from all the photos of them shown on screen, thus far.

According to Kelsey, her boyfriend, who has a second romantic partner and splits his time between Rhode Island and Florida, built their massive home and had intended for the salon area to be where he got his own haircut.Â
“This was before me,” she told Ashley. “So when I moved in here, I was like, this house was made for me.”
Ashley, meanwhile, asked about the man’s kids and their ages. “They are, I want to say, three years younger than me,” Kelsey revealed.

Later, Kelsey brought her “other man,” William “Bill” L’Europa, as her date to a polo match with her castmates in RHORI‘s April 26 episode, and pointed out a major difference between him and her boyfriend.
“Whenever I’m at, like, a function or event that has to do with my friends, I feel like my boyfriend’s never interested,” Kelsey shared in a confessional. “But Bill’s very eager to show our relationship in public [and to], like, claim me as his.”
Kelsey also previously detailed more issues she had been experiencing, ten years into what she described as her “very unorthodox” relationship. During Bill’s RHORI debut in Episode 3, for example, Kelsey discussed being at a crossroads with her long-term boyfriend.
“I want to have kids. I want to be married,” she told Bill. “And I feel like, you know, I’ll never get that where I’m at.”
Meanwhile, her parents, who had known Bill since he and Kelsey went to school together, also wanted her to become a mother someday. Kelsey shared that they were well aware of her romantic arrangement, and though the two did love her boyfriend, they also wanted her to be able to “procreate” and “to have more” for herself, in general.
As for Kelsey’s potential romantic future with Bill, she spilled, “I’m somewhat keeping him at arm’s length until I kind of figure out where my relationship is going.”
