LOS ANGELES (TCN) – A 37-year-old man was stabbed to death after reportedly trying to fend off a dog attack.
KTLA reports that on May 20, 37-year-old Berry Henderson was standing at a Hollywood bus stop when a dog attacked him. Surveillance video obtained by police showed Henderson running away from the dog as it chased him and bit him. Henderson took out a knife to defend himself from the animal and reportedly stabbed it. Following the stabbing of the dog, four men allegedly attacked Henderson. One of the men was the dog’s owner, according to KTLA.
People reports that according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman, three of the men allegedly “physically assaulted the victim using bodily force and a small bat” and that a fourth man “stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife.” KTLA reports that one of the men had a machete.
Henderson crossed the street despite his injuries and that the group allegedly followed him. CBS News reports that a bystander called 911 and assisted Henderson once he got across the street.
Police responded to the scene and arrested three of the suspects, whose names have not been released; they are still searching for the fourth suspect in the attack. Henderson was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.
According to CBS News, the incident took place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Henderson’s cousin, Demaya Brewer, said, “He loved being amongst the stars. The business owners knew him, so he wasn’t just a random person.”
CBS News reports that according to jail records, one of the suspects has posted bail.
