According to the Los Angeles Police Department, on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m., officers from the department’s Gang and Narcotic Division conducted surveillance on a murder suspect on the 5900 block of 7th Avenue. Officers reportedly saw the murder suspect get into the passenger door of a car, and the car drove off.
Los Angeles Police said the suspect and driver got into a collision near Florence and Haas avenues, and the suspect got out of the car and carjacked the victim.
According to police, “The murder suspect drove away from Florence Avenue and Haas Avenue, dragging the carjacking victim.”
Officers then pursued the carjacked vehicle, which the suspect rolled over on Florence and Prairie avenues.
The Carjacking Victim Was Reportedly Pronounced Dead
Police said the murder suspect “refused to comply with officer’s instructions and exit the vehicle,” so SWAT and K-9 teams negotiated with the suspect for two hours before he ultimately got out of the car and surrendered.
He was taken into custody without incident.
According to KTLA-TV, the victim was dragged for about a mile and a half before the driver crashed the stolen car. The driver in the initial pursuit was also reportedly arrested.
The victim and suspect were not identified.
