KENTWOOD, La. (TCD) — A 37-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after pleading guilty to killing a missing couple in 2021.
Louisiana’s 21st Judicial District Attorney Scott Perrilloux announced that Kevin Buckley appeared in court on Wednesday, March 27, and pleaded guilty to the first-degree murders of 55-year-old Lewis Travis and his wife, 54-year-old Iva Travis. Assistant District Attorney Angel Monistere said Buckley was sentenced to life in prison on each count.
According to prosecutors, the couple was reported missing shortly after Feb. 14, 2021. Deputies with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Buckley a week later. Buckley reportedly resided with the couple in their home and worked for them for years.
Buckley admitted to detectives he killed the couple, and he provided them with the location of their bodies. Prosecutors did not say how the victims died.
The deceased couple’s family members made impact statements in court, “reminding the defendant that the couple had loved him and cared for him,” according to the district attorney’s office.
Perrilloux said, “We rarely see a defendant who is willing to plead guilty as charged when the stakes are this high.”
