A 37-year-old man in Pennsylvania will die in prison after being convicted of killing a co-worker at a Lowe’s hardware store, shortly after detailing his motive in an email to human resources.
Lackawanna County Common Pleas Judge Margaret Bisignani Moyle on Thursday sentenced Christopher Wasnetsky to life in prison without parole for fatally shooting Jeffrey Moeller, court records show. Moyle handed down the mandatory sentence after a jury in August found Wasnetsky guilty of first-degree murder.
As Law&Crime previously reported, prior to the shooting, Wasnetsky sent an email to HR claiming he would not have killed Moeller if the company had addressed his previous complaints against the victim.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by local ABC affiliate WNEP, officers with the Scranton Police Department responded to the Lowe’s on Viewmont Drive around 12:30 a.m. on June 14, 2025. Officers found the 44-year-old Moeller lying in a pool of blood. He was suffering from two gunshots to the head and one to the back, the complaint said. Paramedics rushed Moeller to the hospital, where he died.

Wasnetsky confessed almost immediately, calling 911 shortly after shooting Moeller.
“I’d like to report a shooting at Dickson City Lowe’s,” he reportedly told an emergency dispatcher. “I was the person that did it.”
When the dispatcher asked why he pulled the trigger, Wasnetsky reportedly said it had to do with “months of harassment and other things.” The store manager later told detectives they looked into Wasnetsky’s complaints but found no evidence to back them up, according to the complaint.
Wasnetsky repeated his claims about Moeller when speaking with detectives.
“He said the victim, Jeff [Moeller], had been harassing him over a period of time, and no one would do anything about it,” police reportedly wrote in the affidavit.
Wasnetsky told investigators he brought a handgun to work and planned to shoot Moeller, then himself. The defendant also said he had practiced shooting the gun in his backyard, according to The Scranton Times-Tribune.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed Moeller was on the forklift in the store’s lumber yard when Wasnetsky walked up to him while pushing a shopping cart. Wasnetsky pulled a gun from the cart and shot Moeller in the chest from about 5 feet away. Moeller fell to the ground and tried to crawl to safety, but Wasnetsky stood over him and shot him a second time, per the complaint.
Wasnetsky also reportedly brought the gun to work, intent on killing Moeller, earlier in the week but was unable to because Moeller had called in sick that day.
Moeller had been a stay-at-home dad for the three daughters he shared with his wife, but once the girls were old enough for school, he took overnight shifts at Lowe’s so he could still be with them during the day, his sister wrote on a GoFundMe page for the family.
During Thursday’s sentencing hearing, prosecutors read a victim impact statement penned by Keisha Moeller, Jeffrey Moeller’s widow, in which she told the court, “I forgive Chris,” according to the Times-Tribune. She also said that her husband “wasn’t a bully.”
