A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend and her mother walked into a police station this week in Florida and admitted to the slayings, days after authorities say he posted bizarre messages on Facebook, including one peppered with praying hand emojis saying, “Thanks goodbye for forgiving me. I’m ready for everything amen.”
That post was featured above a picture of what looked like the inside of a church during a prayer service. This and other messages were reviewed by Law&Crime on Thursday.
On Dec. 13, according to Florida NBC affiliate WTVJ, police responded to a shooting at a condominium complex in Miami around 9 a.m. When they arrived, they found the bodies of Irisbel Cartalla, 50, and her daughter, Isbelsy Olivera, 22. Police would soon identify Olivera as Carlos Travieso’s ex-girlfriend.
Roughly a half hour after the shootings, West Miami Police said Travieso drove to the station, walked in and confessed his crimes to an officer. Speaking in Spanish, he told them that he had “assassinated” the women.

Police said surveillance footage also revealed Travieso had been lurking and walking around the apartment building in the Miami neighborhood known as “Flagami” for nearly 30 minutes before the slayings. Travieso may have only gotten inside the complex because he pushed his way past another resident coming in and then proceeded to ambush the mother and daughter once inside, WTVJ reported.
He had concealed a firearm as well until he had retrieved it to shoot Cartalla and Olivera, authorities said.
Cartalla was set to turn 51 this weekend, and her daughter was just a week away from turning 23 when she was killed, Miami’s ABC affiliate WPLG reported.
Other Facebook posts on Travieso’s account reviewed by Law&Crime show him with family and friends, and many of the messages are emotional or appear to be longing for better or different days. Just a few days before the murders, there was another post featuring a picture of Travieso standing on the street, donning a pair of sunglasses.
He wrote: “Only good knows why he does things and when he does them.”
Translated from Spanish to English on Facebook, the message continues with more prayer hand emojis and then, “friend the cheese mouse enemy the one you have on the side”
Other Facebook posts from days before the murders show him with a woman he identified as his “cousin.”
“My beautiful cousin what good times those I only remember,” he wrote.
In another picture with several family members in the frame and where he appears to be hugging a child, Travieso wrote: “Here’s my life in this picture” and “I love you so much.”
At an initial court appearance this week, a Spanish-English translator was present, and court records show a public defender was assigned. That attorney did not immediately return a request for comment to Law&Crime. No bond was issued, and he was detained immediately. His arraignment was set for early January.
