Man claiming to be a wizard arrested after alleged threats, home invasion are captured on doorbell camera

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (TCN) — A 30-year-old man is behind bars after an alleged home invasion, captured on Ring security footage, where he reportedly claimed to be a wizard named Harry Dresden.

On April 7, police received a report of a man trying to break into a house where a mother was inside with her child, SFGate reports

Video footage from the home’s Ring camera recorded the incident. In the video, a man at the front door demands to be let in and then begins to kick the door and yell, “Open this f—ing door! Where’s your daughter, man?” Through the doorbell camera, the male homeowner repeatedly asks the man to leave.

The alleged intruder then stares at the Ring camera and says, “My name is Harry Dresden, motherf—er. … This is my neighborhood. Open the f—ing door. Now! Or I will f—ing END you.”

The man allegedly got into the home through a sliding glass door when he was unable to gain access through the front door.

NBC Bay Area reports the woman and 5-year-old child hid in the garage during the incident.

According to SFGate, Harry Dresden is a wizard detective in Jim Butcher’s novel “The Dresden Files.”

The homeowner’s husband was not home at the time, according to the Fairfield Police Department. He had been monitoring the Ring camera and reportedly arrived home right before the suspect allegedly gained entry. The man then approached the suspect with a shovel. A fight ensued and both men were injured. Police arrived shortly after and the suspect, Jason Nichols, was taken into custody.

People reports that while he was being taken into custody, Nichols allegedly told officers, “There’s a little girl trapped in this house.”

He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, first-degree burglary, and vandalism, People reports.

On April 13, police updated their announcement to say they spoke to a witness who described an encounter between Nichols and a child on April 5. While in custody, Nichols was also booked on one count of annoying or molesting a child under 18.

NBC Bay Area reports Nichols’ bail has been set at $250,000; he is scheduled to appear in court again on April 24.
