Man fleeing accident killed teen in second hit-and-run: Cops- In a tragic incident that unfolded in Florida, a 41-year-old man named Edgardo Joel Rosado Perez was accused of killing an 18-year-old pedestrian and fatally striking a high school student as he was fleeing the scene of another accident. The incident occurred on March 28, 2024, when Rosado Perez was involved in a minor crash with a Chevrolet SUV and immediately fled the scene.

After dropping off his daughter at Bartow High School, he was driving north on Jackson Street at a high rate of speed when he struck an 18-year-old male student, Zachariah Clabough, who was walking to school. After the collision, Rosado Perez fled the scene again. Clabough died as a result of his injuries. Rosado Perez was taken into custody and charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash with a fatality.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators were able to trace Rosado Perez’s Hyundai sedan back to his home on Polly Lane in South Lakeland, where they found the vehicle parked in his garage. After the two alleged hit-and-run incidents, Rosado Perez returned home and then left again in his other car, a blue 2017 Ford Fiesta.

Authorities located the Ford Fiesta in a parking lot at the Brandon Mall, about 30 miles west of the high school, and arrested Rosado Perez at the mall. He was transported to the Falkenburg Road Jail in Hillsborough County, where he is currently being held without bond as he awaits transfer back to Polk County.

The incident has sparked a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for Clabough’s funeral, with the family expressing their desire to give him a “beautiful funeral.” The community’s response to the tragedy underscores the profound impact of such incidents on families and communities.
