After a man was accused of fatally stabbing a dog, a local horse ranch owner says she believed he was the same individual terrorizing her business and possibly killing some ducks.
When cops in Falls Church, Virginia, were looking for suspect Reyan Hassan Ibrahim, 25, and released his pictures, they used a mug shot from last year, when he was accused of destroying doors, a McDonald’s drive-thru board, and a wine bottle at local businesses.
Cops said that a suspect on Sunday, at around 9:15 p.m., fatally stabbed a dog that was walking with its owner near the intersection of W. Broad and S. Maple Avenue.
The canine was a 12-year-old named Lucy, according to Washington, D.C., CBS affiliate WUSA.
“Lucy was loved beyond measure,” a family member told the outlet. “My family is devastated beyond words.”
She would have turned 13 in March.
“The dog was euthanized later as a result of its injuries. There were no injuries to humans,” cops said.
According to officers, witnesses reported the suspect’s license plate number. It was registered to Ibrahim, they said.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department arrested him during a traffic stop near Dulles Airport at 11 a.m. on Monday, they said.
“He is being transported to the Loudoun County detention facility, and is expected to be extradited to face charges by the City of Falls Church for stabbing a dog that resulted in the animal being euthanized,” they wrote.
As police were looking for Ibrahim, the owner of a local horse ranch suggested the suspect was involved in other recent incidents at her business.
Muriel Forrest, executive director of Wheatland Farm, an equestrian facility in Purcellville, Virginia, said a member of her staff encountered a man — then unknown — in two recent incidents.
In the first incident, on Friday, the suspect, wearing plastic bags on his feet, climbed the fence into the horse pasture.
“He told her in an agitated type of way, that the horses were possessed,” Forrest told WSUA. “She asked why he thought that and he said well he’s doing everything I tell him to do. He bows, he’s lifting his head when I tell him to. He just wasn’t making any sense.”
The man left on request from staff, but her son discovered two ducks dead later that day, she said.
“He said, ‘Mom, two of my ducks are lying dead,’” she said.
Two other ducks were missing. and a rooster’s neck was broken, she said.
The suspect allegedly returned and Forrest and her family chased him off the property. Forrest later released footage of the suspect vehicle.
“Again today he is back, this time around 5.15pm, and attempted to approach the horse fields,” she wrote on Facebook. “At first, he was not deterred when we called out to him. He finally turned on his heel and left when my husband and two older sons gave chase. He had parked a white Toyota Corolla outside the gates of the farm on the shoulder of northbound, route 287. He took off in his white older model Toyota Corolla northbound towards Lovettsville. The license plates, both front and back of the car are concealed; we have alerted sheriffs deputies who are responding, however, we would like all of our neighbors to know that there is an individual who is brazen enough to enter into horse fields and attempt to remove horses in the middle of the day. He also took the liberty to browse around the farm for at least 45 minutes before a member of our staff realized he was not a part of the construction crew presently working here.”
Ibrahim was arrested last year for three counts of destruction of property in Loudoun County, Virginia. Deputies said he was responsible for a spate of incidents.
- Nov. 27, 2023: at approximately 8:16 p.m., he allegedly destroyed the ordering board for a McDonald’s drive-thru.
- Nov. 28, at approximately 5:20 a.m., he broke a bottle of wine at a Sheetz convenience store, and he shattered the front door entrance by using a wrench, authorities said.
- Later that morning, at approximately 7:57 a.m., deputies responded to a Chick-fil-A regarding a man breaking two glass entrance doors.
A hearing in Ibrahim’s destruction of property case is set for March 27. The law office representing him did not immediately respond to a Law&Crime request for comment.
“Our hearts go out to the family of this dog,” Falls Church Acting Police Chief Jiwan Chhetri said in a statement. “Pets are members of the family, and we grieve along with them. We give our thanks to our colleagues at the MWAA Police Department for their swift action. We also thank the community members who took down the license plate Information when they saw this heinous attack — it was a critical piece in catching this suspect.”
