Jose Francisco DeJesus was taken into custody Monday on charges that include assault causing bodily injury to a family member and abuse of a corpse, court records show.
Officers with the San Antonio Police Department responded to a home in the 300 block of Langford Place at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 19 for a reported disturbance, local NBC and CW affiliate WOAI reported.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders spoke to the victim, a 29-year-old woman, who reportedly told them she and DeJesus got into an altercation that turned physical. The woman said DeJesus had repeatedly pushed her, and she showed the officers visible injuries.
During the same confrontation, DeJesus also allegedly took an urn containing human remains and intentionally threw it into a fire. Investigators learned that the urn belonged to one of the victim’s family members, and the remains inside were from that relative’s recently deceased child, local ABC affiliate KSAT reported. The report noted that the family member had not given DeJesus permission to destroy the remains.
Authorities did not identify the deceased child or specify the child’s relationship to the victim.
Court records show that DeJesus in 2024 was convicted of aggravated robbery and was granted deferred adjudication. He was charged in 2025 with assault causing bodily injury to a family member, but that charge was later dismissed.
DeJesus was booked into the Bexar County Jail and released after posting $25,000 bond, records show. He is scheduled to appear in court before County Judge Melanie M. Lira for his arraignment on Nov. 12.
