DES MOINES, Iowa (TCN) — A 33-year-old man who placed cameras in porta potties at children’s sporting events has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Iowa, Tyler Boyd Pavlick put miniature video cameras into the tank of porta potties at three events centered around minors: two cross-country meets for middle school and high school students, and a harvest, arts, and crafts event.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, “Pavlick placed the cameras with the purpose of creating visual depictions of minors lasciviously exhibiting their anus, genitals, or pubic area.”
Footage from the cameras Pavlick placed was seized during a search of his home in October 2025. Some featured a minor under age 12. In addition, cameras seized at his home were the same model as those seized from inside the porta potties, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Pavlick pleaded guilty May 1 to three counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possession of child pornography, KCCI reports.
He was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on Aug. 26. After his release, Pavlick will be required to register as a sex offender, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
