FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (TCN) — A 27-year-old mother has pleaded guilty to seven charges in connection with the abuse and abandonment of her two children, who have special needs.Â
In February, a neighbor called 911 out of concern for Krystal Farmer’s young children. When officers arrived, they noted that the house felt abandoned. The floors were so caked with trash that officers found in difficult to walk, and feces was smeared on the walls. Inside the home, they found a child curled up on the floor and another child trying to eat spoiled meat. When she was initially questioned, Farmer lied to officers about abandoning the children.
On Sept. 21, Farmer pleaded guilty to two counts of child abandonment, two counts of second-degree child abuse, two counts of second-degree child abuse committed in the presence of another child, and one count of lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation, WJRT reports.
She has reportedly requested a Cobbs agreement, which promises defendants certainty about their punishment before they decide to plead guilty or no contest, according to WILX. Court records obtained by WILX state there was no agreement regarding sentencing with the prosecution.
Farmer will be required to complete an investigation before her scheduled Oct. 19 sentencing, according to WILX. WJRT reports that Farmer will then be allowed to decide if she wants to keep or withdraw her plea.
