Michael Loyd Pleads Quilty To Robbing Bank While Wearing Ankle Monitor

Last summer, on July 20, Michael Loyd entered a Bank of America on Kearney while wearing a court-ordered ankle monitor, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri announced. Loyd approached a teller at the bank and handed over a note he wrote on the back of his birth certificate that read, “Give Your Money Now. Don’t Say Anything. I Have A Partner Outside,” KRCG-TV reports.

The demand note was reportedly written with a pink highlighter.

After the teller gave Loyd $754, he left the bank and fled the scene in a black Dodge Ram pickup truck, the Attorney’s Office said. While driving away, Loyd allegedly threw his birth certificate out of the window. Loyd also threw money out of the window after seeing police driving toward the bank, KRCG reports.

Loyd’s roommate’s boyfriend reportedly called the police and told them about the robbery, and police tracked Loyd down.

The Attorney’s Office said Loyd was on ankle monitoring as part of his state probation, and authorities were able to confirm that the suspect’s ankle monitor was inside the Bank of America at the time of the robbery.

According to KRCG, Loyd told authorities he robbed the bank because he wanted to “prove a point” to his girlfriend after they had gotten into a dispute.

On Thursday, Nov. 17, Loyd pleaded guilty before U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge David P. Rush to one count of bank robbery. Loyd reportedly faces a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison without parole along with a $250,000 fine.
