The incident occurred early Sunday near the door of their Sterling Heights apartment complex. Mersina was stabbed multiple times, and she was rushed to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead, along with her fetus. The motive behind the attack is believed to stem from a domestic violence incident.

Police were initially called to the Sterling Park Apartments on 18 Mile Road, east of Van Dyke Avenue, at around 3 a.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they found blood in the hallway but no one was inside the apartment. Shortly after, Clinton Township police received a 911 call about a man covered in blood, leading them to find Goler and Mersina in her vehicle in a parking lot outside the defendant’s mother’s home.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido emphasized the gravity of the crime, stating, “The defendant allegedly chose to take the life of his pregnant girlfriend, someone who trusted and loved him. Justice demands that he face the consequences of his crimes. These acts are not merely crimes against individuals but against the very fabric of humanity itself”.

Goler was charged with second-degree murder and assault of a pregnant individual – intentionally causing miscarriage. He was also charged with tampering with evidence and concealing the death of an individual. If convicted of second-degree murder or assault, he could face up to life in prison. Goler appeared in court for his arraignment on Wednesday, March 27, and was remanded to the Macomb County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 3.

The incident has shocked the community, with residents expressing disbelief that such a tragic event could occur in their area. The ongoing investigation is still underway, and anyone with any information related to the incident is asked to contact the Sterling Heights Detective Bureau.
