BARNWELL, S.C. (TCD) — A 17-year-old girl who was days away from giving birth was found dead about a week after she went missing.
According to WRDW-TV, Maylashia Hogg was scheduled to be induced to give birth on Feb. 13, but her family grew worried when she failed to show up for the appointment. The Barnwell Police Department shared a bulletin about her disappearance the next day, but WACH-TV reports her family actually reported her missing Feb. 8.
The teen’s body was found in a ditch Sunday, Feb. 18, less than a mile from her home. According to WACH, Hogg reportedly did not have any outward signs of trauma on her body.
Hogg reportedly planned on naming her daughter Londyn, after her mother, who had recently died.
Hogg’s aunt, Judy Hogg, told WJBF-TV that the teen “was happy and ready to be a mama.”
Judy Hogg said, “My sister passed away three years ago, and losing her was like losing my sister all over again. She meant everything.”
The Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating the disappearance of Michael Still, who was last seen on Feb. 6. The sheriff’s office said in a statement, “Though there is no concrete evidence that Still’s disappearance is related to Malayshia Hogg, we continue to work closely with Barnwell Police Dept. to share information and follow all leads.”
No arrests have been made.
