EUFAULA, Ala. (TCN) — An 18-year-old man last seen on May 6 was found dismembered, shot, and set on fire in a wooded area, according to family members.
WRIC reports Markavious Rumph’s family became concerned when he did not return to his grandmother’s home after leaving with a friend. He was last seen getting into a black Nissan at a gas station, the Eufaula Police Department said.
His family reported him missing on May 7 and began their own multiday search with volunteers. On May 11, Rumph’s remains were found in a wooded area in Barbour County, Alabama. His family members say he had been shot, dismembered, and set on fire.
According to Rumph’s mother, Yolanda Wynn, police did not assist the family in their search, WRIC reports. On May 12, authorities confirmed the scene was secure and investigators began processing it, including searching for additional evidence.
Rumph had recently obtained his G.E.D. and was planning to attend welding school, family members told WRIC. His father, Marcus Rumph, said, “He was the life of the party. He was gonna make you laugh.”
The investigation is ongoing. Family members say Rumph might have known his attacker, but authorities have not yet named a suspect.
