Missouri mom allegedly fed 10-pound 1-year-old only 250 calories a day until she died

ST. LOUIS (TCN) — A 29-year-old mother has been charged in connection with the death of her 1-year-old daughter, who starved to death on a diet of 250 calories a day, according to authorities.

A probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime says Sausha Mia Myers dialed 911 on June 14 to report that her daughter was unresponsive and breathing slowly.

Responders found a 1-year-old girl on the floor with no pulse upon arrival at their apartment. A 3-year-old child was also found in the home. According to the affidavit, both children were emaciated. They were taken to a hospital, and the 1-year-old was pronounced dead. She had bedsores and weighed only 10 pounds. Law & Crime reports the average weight for a child her age is 24 pounds.

The 3-year-old weighed 17 pounds, 13 pounds below what is considered a healthy weight for a toddler that age. She reportedly had scars on her torso, is nonverbal, and is undergoing medical care.

Law & Crime reports neither child had been to a doctor in over a year and the older child had previously seen a doctor for low weight. The doctor reportedly tried to educate Myers about proper nutrition. According to the arrest affidavit, the deceased 1-year-old ate food pouches that added up to only 250 calories a day.

Myers was charged with two counts of child abuse and neglect, Law & Crime reports. When the results of the 1-year-old’s autopsy come back, she could face more charges.

Us Magazine reports Myers is being held without bond.
