A woman who just dropped off her children at a North Carolina elementary school pulled a gun on another woman because she believed the other woman tried to run her “off the road,” authorities say.

Jodie Abrams, 37, has been charged with felony carrying a gun on educational property and communicating threats, a misdemeanor, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show. She was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on Thursday before posting a $50,000 bond on Friday.

On Thursday morning, Abrams was dropping off her kids at Mint Hill Elementary School in Mint Hill, North Carolina. The suburban town is located just southeast of Charlotte, North Carolina’s largest city.

As Abrams drove in the parking lot, another woman “supposedly” tried “to run Abrams off the road,” according to an affidavit filed in the case. The defendant left the school property and got onto nearby Idlewild Road, where she saw the other woman.

Abrams allegedly “grabbed” her Charter Arms .38 Special handgun “out of the glove box and showed it” to the other woman while passing her. According to authorities, Abrams then placed the weapon on the front passenger seat.

At about 8:15 a.m., officers with the Mint Hill Police Department responded to the area of Idlewild Road where a gun was apparently drawn “in reference to a road rage incident involving a firearm.” They learned that the “incident took place in the drive through” of the school “just down the road.”

According to the affidavit, “before Abrams got out of the car,” she “pointed the gun at her own head” so that the other woman “could see her as a threat.” Abrams was arrested.

Court records show the defendant made her first court appearance on Friday. It is not yet clear when she is due to return.
