Mustafa Qadri disclosed to CBS News last week that migrant labourers were required to work for extended periods without compensation and were exposed to forced labour and hazardous working conditions.
While researching the alleged human rights violations in Qatar, the advocacy expert said to be arrested.
The European Parliament passed a resolution regarding Qatar’s human right status on 24 November 2022.
The European Parliament has officially condemned Qatar for alleged violations of human rights that are thought to be responsible for the deaths of migrant workers hired to complete World Cup preparations this year.
The Release Puts Pressure On In-Depth Investigation On Qatari Authority
The MEPs recognized the significant impact migrant labour has had on Qatar’s economy and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The resolution has also put pressure on Qatari authorities to carry out in-depth investigations into all instances where migrant workers have reportedly died as a result of their working conditions.
The release also urged the Golf country to compensate the families of those whose deaths were proven to have been brought on by unsafe working conditions.
It comes amid rising allegations that Qatar mistreated migrant workers to construct the stadiums and other structures used for the World Cup.
According to a news release on Thursday, the European Parliament estimates that thousands of migrant workers have died in Qatar due to hazardous working conditions before the World Cup.
Members of the European Parliament described the corruption within FIFA as “rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted.”
MEPs drew attention to the fact that the Gulf state won the FIFA World Cup bid competition despite plausible claims of corruption.
Furthermore, they mourn the loss of thousands of migrant workers, mainly in the construction industry, who assisted in the nation’s preparation for the tournament and the injuries suffered by everybody.
