IREDELL COUNTY,  N.C. (TCN) — A 42-year-old man has been booked into jail and is being held without bond after he allegedly attacked a man with a machete hours after being released from jail.
WYFF reports that on the afternoon of June 10, deputies responded to a report of breaking and entering and an assault involving a machete. The victim, whose name has not been released, was hit in the shoulder and the back of the head with a machete and also sustained defensive wounds on his hands while trying to grab the machete as he was being attacked.Â
Investigators identified Joseph Payton Gallimore as the suspect, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. He had been released from county jail hours before the alleged machete attack.Â
WYFF reports that witnesses allege they saw him run into the woods after the attack, still holding the machete. Authorities deployed a K-9 unit and drones to find him. He was not located during the initial search.Â
During their search, investigators found that Gallimore allegedly flattened the tires of two vehicles with the machete and allegedly assaulted someone else during the attack on the first victim.
Gallinore was found and arrested on June 11. He was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon; one count each of misdemeanor assault, domestic violence, and false imprisonment; and two counts each of misdemeanor communicating threats and injury to personal property. He is being held without bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
