During the race, Harvick, operating the #6 truck he owned, made contact with Gibbs, who was driving the #18 truck for his Father’s team.

After a restart, Harvick reacted by purposefully damaging Gibbs, which caused the #6 to be parked for the remainder of the race. Despite Harvick’s denials, radio transmissions showed that his actions were deliberate.

Since Harvick was already on probation for fighting with Greg Biffle following the Busch Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway two weeks prior, the incident with Gibbs led to Harvick’s suspension.
