A former Iowa middle school reading teacher has pleaded guilty in a sex abuse case involving three students in Carroll County.
Cassidy Kraus, 24, was initially arrested in October and charged with third-degree sexual abuse, lascivious acts with a child, and dissemination of obscene material to minors. Following a plea agreement, she pleaded guilty to all of the charges Monday, at the Carroll County Courthouse.
Criminal complaints in the case assert that Kraus engaged in sexual acts with one minor victim in January and committed lascivious acts with another minor victim in May of the preceding year. Kraus also distributed obscene material to three minor victims via Snapchat.
The incident came to light in August, after a report was made to the IKM-Manning School District, accusing Kraus of sending sexually explicit photos to a student, Caroll Times Herald reports. She was subsequently placed on leave but officially resigned from her teaching position on August 25.
Court records indicate that Kraus was “fondling or touching” a 13-year-old in May 2022 and “touching [her] genitals to any part of the body of the child.”
