ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (TCD) — A woman faces an upgraded charge of murder after allegedly running over her husband with a vehicle and killing him last month.
On Thursday, Feb. 8, shortly after 2:30 a.m., the Elizabeth City Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of White Street and Walston Avenue, where officers found 43-year-old Jermaine Major trapped under a 2004 Acura sedan. Elizabeth City Fire personnel and Pasquotank County EMS worked to pull the victim out and performed lifesaving measures, but Jermaine Major succumbed to his injuries.
Police initially arrested the driver of the Acura, the victim’s wife, 44-year-old Tyisha Major, on charges of driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle. She was booked into the Albemarle District Jail under a $50,000 bond.
More than a month later, on March 18, officers arrested Tyisha Major after she was indicted on a count of murder, according to an update from police. She was rebooked into the Albemarle District Jail without bond.
Tyisha Major is scheduled to appear in court on April 8.
