Who Was Ronnie Maceo?
Ronnie Maceo was a famous business owner from Galveston, Texas. He owned and ran Maceo Spice & Import Co. for decades. Most recently, his store is situated at 2706 Market Street. He was a member of one of the island’s most notable families.
His family was among the colorful ones that were responsible for founding the famous Balinese Room. Unfortunately, Ronnie Maceo was involved in a car crash last month. He had been getting treatment for the injuries sustained in the crash and wasn’t present at the store.

How Did Ronnie Maceo Die?
Ronnie Maceo died on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at the hospital he was getting treatment. He was 75 years old at the time of his death. Maceo was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital after sustaining critical injuries in a car crash last month.
According to his relatives, Maceo was involved in a car crash alongside Cruz Cortez, owner of Cruz Cortez Clothiers, on October 17th. The two businessmen were traveling in their Jeep when it was hit by another vehicle at the intersection of 27th Street and Broadway at around 6 PM.
Due to the impact, Maceo’s Jeep was broadsided and rolled off the road. Maceo was severely injured in a car accident and passed away this past Sunday. Fortunately, Cortez only received minor wounds.

Tributes Emerge For Ronnie Maceo From Islanders
The Islanders were reflecting on the life of Ronnie Maceo this Monday. Maceo passed away this past Sunday afternoon surrounded by his family members.
“It is just a terrible loss for the community,” said Danny Hart, principal at Galveston Restaurant Group. “He was just a very good friend to me. I enjoyed his stories and knowledge of Galveston.” Hart had met Maceo within weeks of moving to Galveston in the 1980s.
“It showed in his work ethic,” said Johnny Smecca, a principal in Galveston Restaurant Group while discussing Maceo being the pride of his heritage and culture. “I was glad to know him,” he added.
