Linda was born May 10, 1952 in Mobridge, South Dakota to Burt and Jean (Longbrake) Dillabaugh. She was welcomed by her older brother Terry, and she later welcomed 2 younger siblings, Susie in 1960 and Fred in 1962. Linda was a bossy big sister and teased her siblings about being adopted because they were 8 years younger than her and Terry. Her executive leadership skills were with her from the beginning and she always let you know what was what, with no hesitation. Linda loved fudge and always asked her sister Susie to make it for her, even if it never turned out she would eat it at any stage of cooking. She found her love for nature at a young age, she left no stone unturned, no bush unexplored, and never passed up a mud puddle to create her perfect mud pies. She was raised in Armstrong County on the Cheyenne River Reservation.

The majority of her education was in Eagle Butte, with a short stint in Springfield, South Dakota at a girls’ boarding school. She was accompanied by close friend Bernie Thompson and they quickly regretted their decision to transfer mid-semester.

Linda married Greg Jewett in 1969 and welcomed her daughter Jeanne Marie to the world in December 1969. She took on the role of mother like second nature, and enjoyed the trials of parenthood.

She graduated high school from Eagle Butte in 1970, her social circle and activities made her well known to all her classmates. After her first marriage she found love again in November of 1972 when she married Fred Heathershaw. In 1973 she moved to Glasco Montana and took classes on the MPEED Glasco Airforce Base. Linda endured her fair share of heartbreaks including the passing of her father Burt on January 25, 1972 and her mother Jean on December 31,1977. The void left in her heart was with her until her passing as she spoke of her parents often.

Linda married her third husband John Heathershaw in 1986. While she was living in Eagle Butte she welcomed her first grandson JD on January 31, 1987 who always held a special place in her heart. He was followed by her eldest granddaughter Kym born on June 7, 1989.  Linda had so much love to share that she was blessed to be able to welcome an adopted son,  Joey on April 4, 1990 and later that year her second grandson Kolby on September 16, 1990. Linda’s last granddaughter Krystan was born December 3, 1992.

Linda was a Contracting Specialist for the Financial Department in the Tribal office from 1992 to 2006. In 2006 she was blessed with her first great granddaughter and has since welcomed many great grandchildren from grandsons JD and Kolby.  She worked as a contracting specialist for Tribal Projects from 2006 until she retired in 2011.

For the last 12 years of her life, she spent her days laughing and enjoying life and spreading love to everyone she came in contact with. She made beautiful connections with countless people and she always had stories to tell and words of wisdom to pass along. She loved growing plants and always had a green thumb, you couldn’t get away from her place without being offered a plant, she always said she loved “making babies.”

Linda found her long-lost sister, Tina Conlee, after years of searching. She was able to meet Tina in August 2021. Their Aunt June and Uncle Don hosted a Thanksgiving dinner in 2022 at their home in Sandia Park, NM. Terry, Linda, Susie, Fred, and Tina’s family were all in attendance and had a wonderful time reconnecting and sharing memories.

Linda was a shining untamable spirit; her beauty was often remarked upon as well as how down to earth she was. She made friends everywhere and left an impression on everyone she met. Everyone who knows her has a story of her kindness, generosity and love of life. She was always ready for a new adventure and never hesitated to travel or relocate in search of exciting opportunities. There was always a smile on her face and laughter in her lungs. She collected friends like she collected her rocks, they are too numerous to mention.

Linda is survived by: Uncle Pete Longbrake, Uncle Don and Aunt June Gray. Sisters Susie Dillabaugh and Tina Conlee, Brothers Terry Dillabaugh and Fred Dillabaugh. Daughter Jeanne Brooks and son Joey Heathershaw. Grandchildren JD Johnson, Kym Brooks, Kolby Brooks and Krystan Brooks. 7 Great-Grandchildren. Nieces Kyanne Dillabaugh, Karen Ducheneaux, Kellie Fischer, Korey Fischer, Jordan Conlee, Taylor Conlee, Josee Maynard. Nephews Burt Dillabaugh, Josh Dillabaugh, Ryan Conlee. She is also survived by her fur family: Bodey James, Cherry Forever, Bobcat, Cat Creek Johnny, and Smoochie.

She was preceded in death by: Grandparents Delbert and Marriette (Bridwell) Longbrake and Fred and Ruth (Timmons) Dillabaugh, her parents Burt and Jean Dillabaugh, Uncles Ron, Jayme, Bill, Jerry and Jack Longbrake and her friends Andy Grass and Carol Elk Nation, Judy Bridwell, Fred Heathershaw, Justin Gray, Jimmy Picotte, Bob and Judy Kessler.

Karol Harmon was Linda’s lifelong family friend and they always managed to find trouble wherever they went. Laughing and giggling like family when they were together. Bernie Halfred was her childhood friend and they stayed great friends throughout the years of Linda’s life.
