Emily Simpson’s Persian New Year party on The Real Housewives of Orange County included some unexpected guests: a pair of polygraph examiners.Â
After pulling a bait-and-switch by asking her castmates — Shannon Storms Beador, Heather Dubrow, Katie Ginella, Tamra Judge, Gina Kirschenheiter, Jennifer Pedranti, and friend Gretchen Rossi — to anonymously write down two to three “burning questions” for each other as part of an unspecified “activity” she had planned on Season 19, Episode 8, Emily eventually revealed that they were actually all going to take lie-detector tests.
In two separate dark rooms, an examiner hooked up each woman to equipment that measured their physical reactions, including everything from blood pressure and breathing to fingertip moisture, as they answered a series of yes/no questions.
It appeared that no one struggled more with the uncomfortable process than an anxiety-ridden Katie, and at the end of her polygraph test, the examiner quietly made a shocking declaration to herself: “She’s so full of s–t.”

Afterward, the same woman announced the results of all the tests, telling Katie that not only did she “fail,” but she also “did the worst out of everybody.” As she further pointed out, “Those questions for you about Gretchen, you failed those very badly.”
Even so, Katie insisted that she “told the truth” and “didn’t lie” about the drama involving Gretchen and Tamra or allegations she played a recording of Shannon for Alexis Bellino, among other topics she was asked to address. Her castmates weren’t buying her story, though, and Emily told Katie to leave her home immediately.
Katie Ginella defends her polygraph test results
Both during the Aug. 28 episode and on The Real Housewives of Orange County After Show, Katie continued to maintain that her polygraph answers were truthful. Meanwhile, she also attempted to make sense of why she failed every single question on the test.
“I was anxious, not only to be in this group of women, but then sit in Emily’s closet and do a random non-certified polygraphy test,” Katie explained in the above After Show clip. “Not in a controlled environment; in her closet.”
Also not helping matters was the fact she didn’t realize until she was already on her way to Emily’s party that she hadn’t taken her “anti-anxiety medicine.” Still, Katie thought she would be “fine” without it, but her assumption turned out to be wrong.

“The anxiety made me get sick. I was, like, puking when I got there,” Katie described. “I’m getting glares from Shannon. She’s, like, daggering me, and I was like, ‘This is too much.’ I just started to get sick. … It was just too much anxiety.”
As Katie concluded, “I had nothing to gain from lying… I didn’t do anything. Why would I self-implode like that? There’s literally no reason.”

Further puzzling Katie was the fact that Gretchen had an entirely “truthful” test result. On the RHOC After Show, she assumed that Gretchen “must be f–kin’ lying” because she was hardly the only one who heard the claims the Season 19 friend allegedly made about Tamra during their group dinner with Jenn, as well as their partners, Matt Ginella, Slade Smiley, and Ryan Boyajian.
“And that’s why, in that moment I pointed to Jenn and was like, ‘Jenn, you know she said that,'” Katie added. “We had just talked like the month before on the phone about it, with Ryan and Slade on the phone. How do you not remember this?”
She elaborated, “The most disappointing part of this whole thing is I don’t know why Jenn won’t just say, ‘I heard it, too.’ … I cried for weeks about this. Why would you wanna see me get annihilated? Why wouldn’t you just say, ‘Hey, Gretchen, I think you did slip up and say that.’?”
Regardless, Katie referred to Jenn as being “a very kind person,” while trying to come up with a possible explanation for her silence on the matter.
“I think that when she saw that I was getting in the mess, she didn’t wanna get in the mess,” Katie theorized. “And that’s why she’s like, ‘I didn’t hear it.’ Because she’s friends with both of us — or she was friends with both of us.”
Katie also assumed that Gretchen had allegedly repeated the rumor at dinner “to rile Jenn up more to hate Tamra,” before describing how Slade was frantically “calling Matt like 20 times in a row” while the women were in New Orleans. Upon their return, Katie claimed Matt offered to “talk this out” with Slade, but he “ghosted” him.
“Why would he do that if I just made this up and lied about it?” she questioned of his several “9-1-1” calls to Matt. “He wouldn’t.”
Either way, as Katie revealed to an After Show producer, Matt “doesn’t talk to Slade anymore.”
