Inside ‘Richneck Elementary School Shooting Reported In Virginia, Teacher Injured’ A suspect is in custody following a shooting at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia.
According to Newport News Public Schools, the suspect shot a teacher, who has been taken to an area hospital. Her condition is currently unknown, and it’s unclear why the shooting occurred.
“All of the students are safe,” the school system said. “The perpetrator is in police custody.”

The extent of the teacher’s injuries is unknown at this time, but police say she was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. It is not known whether the shooting occurred in the school or on school grounds.
Police also say they are in the beginning process of reuniting parents with students. Parents can pick up their children with identification at the gym door to start reunification.
Police said parents can pick up their children in the school gym area and that “there is no longer an active shooter.” The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
