An Idaho man was accused of intentionally driving toward a couple during a road rage incident that took place near an elementary school.
Manuel Ibarra Jr., 49, is out on bond after he was charged with two counts of aggravated battery. His arrest came in connection with an apparent road rage incident that occurred on July 24 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, near the Linden Park Elementary School.
According to an affidavit obtained by EastIdahoNews.com, police responded to a call at 7:35 p.m. that day about someone being hit by a car close to the school. An officer said that as he approached the scene, he spotted a Subaru matching the description provided by the caller and pulled it over.

The driver of the Subaru, who was identified as Ibarra, apparently told the officer that he was involved in a road rage incident with another driver. According to the affidavit, Ibarra said he was turning right onto a street while the other car was turning onto the same road and cut him off. Ibarra told police the other driver “intentionally slammed on his brakes” to make him “angry.”
Police said Ibarra asked the other driver if he wanted to “pull over,” which both cars did. According to the affidavit, Ibarra said the other driver, a man, got out of his car and then jumped onto Ibarra’s Subaru. The officer noted that Ibarra’s car had sustained some damage, including scuff marks on the front fender, cracks in the windshield, and shoe prints on the passenger side of the car.
When police spoke to the other driver, who was not named, he claimed the initial incident happened the other way around. The other driver told police it was Ibarra who cut him off. When both drivers pulled over, the unnamed driver told police that Ibarra drove toward him and his wife after they got out of their car. The husband said he was able to jump onto the roof to avoid being hit, but his wife was not so lucky.
According to the affidavit, the wife told police that “her left arm was dragged by [Ibarra’s] vehicle and that she was pinned between [her husband’s] vehicle and [Ibarra’s] vehicle.” The wife was complaining of pain in her left arm at the scene.
Police said the wife told them she was on the phone with someone at the moment she was allegedly hit by Ibarra’s car. The person on the other end of the line told police he heard the wife “scream” before dropping her phone.
Ibarra was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and booked into the Bonneville County Jail. He posted a $30,000 bond and was released. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 11.
