On Wednesday, authorities arrested an Oklahoma man in connection with last month’s murder of his wife.
On September 20, Makayla Fay Meave-Byers was found shot twice in the head and wrapped in carpet in a drainage ditch in Pottawatomie County. Meave-Byers vanished five days before her body was found. Investigators believe her husband, Frank Byers, killed her because he wanted to start a relationship with another woman, according to KOCO.
Before he was arrested, Byers said that he was upset when Meave-Byers asked to have an open marriage, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
“I didn’t want to lose her so I agreed to it,” Byers told KOKH.
However, her family said this was untrue and that Byers’ affairs led to their separation.
Byers allegedly claimed his wife went on a date on September 15. Police still do not know who she went out with, according to KOKH.
KFOR reported that a day after Meave-Byers was reported missing, investigators found a receipt for mop, ammonia, and bleach on Byers’ property. Investigators allegedly also reviewed text messages indicating the motive.
Investigators also found Byers’ work boots which had his slain wife’s blood on them, according to KFOR.
Byers is facing charges of first-degree murder, unauthorized removal of a dead body, and desecration of a corpse. He is due in court on November 8.
