Toddler Weighed 16 Pounds, Covered in Bug Bites When Rescued from Filthy Home – Crime Online

Ohio police have released body camera footage showing officers entering a filthy home after they were called about an unresponsive toddler and rescuing the emaciated, starving 3-year-old gilr from her deplorable surroundings.

The child’s mother, 25-year-old Rabya N. Muballigh, has been charged with second degree felonious assault and third degree endangering children, Law&Crime reports.

The toddler, who weighed 16 pounds at the time, is recovering at a hospital, where police say she will likely be for “quite some time,” according to WHIO, which first obtained the body camera footage.

Muballigh called 911 at about 1 p.m. on January 8, saying the toddler needed immediate medical assistance, but she gave a false name. The video shows Fairburn Police officers arriving and entering the apartment to a scene of scattered garbage and discarded food. Unfurled fly traps, nearly completely covered with flies, are in the room.

“Oh my god,” an officer says.

The officers thought the little girl was dead when they finally found her, huddled in the corner of her room and covered in bug bites. In the video, the girl is lying on the floor next a mattress that is covered in feces and urine. More insects cover the floors and walls.

The officers are relieved when they discovered the little girl was still breathing, and rip down blankets covering windows as they investigate. The girl is taken to the hospital.

The officers questioned Muballigh outside the apartment and learned she was the person who called 911. She is arrested for child endangerment and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
