An unknown person opened fire in an Alabama UPS facility parking lot Tuesday, gunning down a 44-year-old husband and father who was leaving work at the end of his shift.
Birmingham Police said Anthony Lamar Love Jr. had worked for the shipping company for around 20 years.
They said about a dozen shots rang out just after 6 p.m. at the customer care center and distribution warehouse in northeast Birmingham.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said that the shooting “was a targeted attack,” but “there is no indication this is a workplace shooting at this time.”
“It’s devastating for the city as a whole and definitely for his family‚’’ Wade said. “Some employees are very shaken up about what has happened here. They are scared.”
Police said the suspect confronted Love in the parking lot and then killed him. They have not released a description of the shooter or said whether they have an identity.
While Wade said police were certain it was a targeted attack, she did not say how they came to that conclusion, only that no one else is in danger.
