Why did Kat Johnston break up with Cooper Dawson?
“I think it was just like I finally came to the realization that he never was gonna take me serious,” Kat explained in her post-season interview with Bravo Insider. “I think when I agreed to the secret relationship, I was holding onto the hope [that he would] wake up one day and be like, ‘I don’t want this to be a secret. I want us to like date.'”
By the time the final charter guests had departed, Cooper still hadn’t reached that epiphany, however. “On the last day of the season, I was like, ‘Wait… You’re still not giving me what I deserve?'” Kat recalled. “That’s when I kind of came to the realization, I was like, ‘Well, this can’t go any further.’ And I was honestly just so upset because I liked him so much. I feel like I just came to terms with reality.”

Did Kat Johnston and Cooper Dawson stay in touch after Below Deck Med Season 11?
According to Kat, she and Cooper had only some “really spotty” communication, post-filming. “I saw him on the flight home,” she said. “And then I saw him once in L.A., but that was a really weird interaction. And then he would like kind of text me every few months when it was convenient to him.”
“Even to this day, I just feel led on by Cooper,” she told Bravo Insider. “Not, like, tricked, but I feel like every time he’d pull back and I’d be like, ‘OK, is this over?’ he would come back and be like, ‘Yeah, no, no, no. We’re still together.’ I felt so alone all the time, because he would give me a little and lead me on. But he never was like all-in.”
Kat continued, “I think that was super frustrating, even to this day. And that’s why I kind of was like, I’m even still confused what our relationship was.”Â
Who is Kat Johnston dating today?
Kat told Bravo Insider in her post-season interview that she’s not dating anybody new. “I’m single right now,” she shared.
How did Cooper Dawson react to Kat Johnston breaking up with him on Below Deck Med?
Despite their boatmance ending, Cooper said on the show that he hoped his friendship with Kat could still continue. Ever after she confronted him for “giving Instagrams out” in front of her at the club, he told Kat, “I’m sorry. I wanna have a good time with what we have left. And we’re gonna spend two days in Dubrovnik.” As Cooper found out later on, however, she had no desire to continue with the status quo.
Leading up to their split, Cooper also said in a confessional interview that he hoped to avoid an official heart-to-heart with Kat on the matter altogether.
“The whole Kat situation right now, it’s tough,” he explained. “I know I need to have a conversation and be honest with her and just put it on the table. But we’re so close to the end of the season. There’s a part of me that thinks maybe I never have to have the conversation.”
