A Mississippi marijuana deal allegedly turned into an execution-style ambush, with police testifying this week that a woman, her boyfriend and two others vowed that “no one would be left alive” before killing a mother, her 2-year-old son and the mom’s sister.
“All of them would be killed,” Jackson police detective Terrence Jackson testified Tuesday during a preliminary hearing for Mikala Young, 26, who is accused of being a getaway driver for her boyfriend, Cornelius Carter, 28, and two other suspects, Jordan Carter, 28, and Devon Modacure, 32.
“It was … spoken inside the vehicle, which was confessed by Ms. Young, that the individuals that were at that house … They all would be taken care of,” Jackson testified, according to the Clarion-Ledger. “No one would be left alive.”

Young and the others are facing three counts of capital murder, along with other charges, in connection with the June 27 slayings. Her case is slated to head to a Hinds County grand jury after a judge denied Young’s bond.
Jackson reportedly testified that Young admitted she was at the June 27 crime scene on Queen Alexandria Lane and was behind the wheel of a vehicle carrying the others. The group allegedly went to the Jackson residence where the shooting deaths unfolded under the guise of buying marijuana, Jackson said.
Young allegedly claimed in a police interview that she was unaware that the drug deal would turn into a robbery and murder until the group neared the home, despite the discussion about killing everyone, per Jackson.
The group allegedly removed the getaway vehicle’s license plate before luring the father of the 2-year-old victim outside. Jackson said Tuesday that the dad is best friends with Modacure.
Two of the male suspects were wearing ski masks and armed when they allegedly confronted the father, Jackson testified. The dad told police he realized “he had been set up” and tried to escape, but one of the suspects allegedly warned him, “Don’t run.”
Young told investigators she remained in the vehicle with Jordan Carter as gunfire erupted, according to Jackson. She said she immediately drove away and left Modacure and Cornelius behind, per Jackson.
Keyana Weathersby, 26, was killed on a living-room couch while her sister, Erica Weathersby, 30, was allegedly shot in a hallway as she tried to seek shelter in a bathroom, according to police. Keyana’s 2-year-old, Camari Givens, was murdered while lying down in a bedroom. Jackson said all three victims were shot at close range.
Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard told the Clarion-Ledger that Keyana Weathersby suffered “multiple gunshots to the head,” while Camari suffered “multiple gunshots to the head, face and arm.” Erica Weathersby suffered “multiple gunshots to the head, upper torso area and extremities,” according to Howard.
Authorities have described the killings as a “targeted,” “intentional” and “heinous” attack.
Young told police that after fleeing the scene, she dropped Jordan Carter off at his home before returning to her own residence. She later met Cornelius Carter at his home, where Jackson testified that the two of them “smoked” their share of 1 to 2 pounds of marijuana stolen during the robbery.
Young’s mother told the Clarion-Ledger that Young had only been dating Cornelius Carter for a week before the killings and was “forced to participate in the crime.”
