Police arrested a man Friday after a six-hour standoff at a San Diego hotel room and found a 31-year-old woman dead inside.
The San Diego Police Department said that Owerrie Davon Bacon Jr., 28, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and assaulting a police service dog with a deadly weapon, KNSD reported.
Bacon came out, still armed with a knife, and stabbed Hondo, the police dog several times. All but one stab hit the dog in the service vest, and he is expected to survive.
Police said they have identified the slain woman but have not completed family notifications.
Police were called to the Days Inn on Adobe Falls Road shortly before 11 a.m. on Friday about a man who was refusing to leave. Shortly afterward, police were told that Bacon had broken out a window and threatened staff members with a knife.
Police said they noticed blood in the room and an odor that indicated a dead person could be inside.
Bacon refused to exit the room as a SWAT team and emergency negotiators arrived on scene. At one point, officers sent a robot with a cigarette for Bacon, who lit the cigarette and then threw the robot over the railing.
When Bacon finally complied with requests to come out, he was still carrying the knife, prompting police to send Hondo to subdue him. It was the second time Hondo had been injured by suspects, police said. He’ll be spending the next few days resting at home.
Today, during a SWAT operation, K9 Hondo was attacked and stabbed. Thanks to his protective vest, all but one of the injuries were deflected, and we are deeply grateful that his injuries are not life-threatening.

An officer also suffered minor injuries. Bacon was not injured.
Police said the woman suffered multiple stab wounds and other traumatic injuries. Investigators have not yet learned much about what led to her death or what her relationship with Bacon was.
Detectives said that Bacon ad been at the hotel for several days and that staff had made at least two earlier calls about his refusal to leave, although those calls did not involve reports of injuries or threats.
