An Arizona woman fuming over a $15 broken fingernail repair shot up a Phoenix salon with nearly 20 people inside, telling cops she did it in an attempt to scare workers into fixing it for free, police say.

Essence Mire, 26, is facing charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm at a nonresidence, discharging a firearm in city limits and assault in connection with the alleged shooting attack.

Court documents obtained by AZ Family say Mire got into an argument with workers at the Element Nail bar at 16th Street and Bethany Home Road on Sunday afternoon over the cost of her fingernail repair.

Mire punched an employee during the dispute and then walked outside to get a gun, according to police. She allegedly opened fire on the business, sending a bullet flying through the front glass door and shattering it.

At least 18 people were inside at the time. Many of them ran out the back door or hid inside the salon to avoid being struck by the gunfire. Several patrons recorded what happened with their cellphones.

“Fortunately, everyone was fine,” a manager told Law&Crime on Tuesday. They confirmed the salon was open and referred all other requests for comment to the owner.

Mire fled the scene after the shooting and was later arrested at her home in Maricopa County near Interstate 17 and Northern Avenue, according to police. She allegedly admitted to punching the worker in the face and shooting at the business in hopes of intimidating employees into giving her a free manicure fix.

Mire was being held this week on a $100,000 bond.
