WINNESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa (TCN) — A 36-year-old woman has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars for lacing a lasagna with drugs in an attempt to cause another woman to have a miscarriage.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation in January after a family contacted them regarding a lasagna that Amber Snow and a then-unnamed co-conspirator, later identified as 35-year-old Matthew Uthoff, had delivered to their home on Dec. 28, 2025. Investigators learned that Snow and the family she delivered the lasagna to shared custody of a child, and the child was reportedly aware of the lasagna and its purpose.

It was tested and found to contain oxycodone. On March 10, Snow was charged with delivery of a controlled substance; intentionally terminating a human pregnancy without the knowledge and voluntary consent of the pregnant person; aggravated misdemeanor child endangerment for knowingly acting in a manner that created a substantial risk to a child or minor’s physical, mental, or emotional health or safety; two counts of administering a harmful substance to an adult; and two counts of administering a harmful substance to a juvenile.

WHO-DT reports that Snow was sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison on May 26. After initially pleading not guilty, she pleaded guilty to the charges of child endangerment, nonconsensual termination of pregnancy — attempts to intentionally terminate human pregnancy, conspiracy to commit nonforcible felony, and conspiring with intent to deliver II controlled substance.

According to WHO-DT, Uthoff was arrested soon after Snow and pleaded not guilty to his charges. His trial is scheduled to begin on Aug. 5.
